Attracting attention from record labels, Baby Animals signed a deal with Imago Recording Company and went to record with producer Mike Chapman (Blondie, Lita Ford, Sweet, Suzi Quatro) in New York. This self titled CD was hugely successful in Australia and the band promoted it worldwide with support slots for Van Halen, Black Crowes and Bryan Adams. The majority of this album is straight ahead rock with some snazzy guitar work with similarities to Heart and Joan Jett. With many singles released like "Early Warning", "Rush You", radio friendly "One Word", "Painless" and "Ain't Gonna Get" were like a breath of fresh air to the mainstream blandness and great to see rock and roll in the spotlight again. In 1992 they appeared on The Late Show with Letterman performing their ballad "Painless" while on tour with Van Halen.
In 1993 the band again returned to record in New York but this time with producers Ed Stasium (Ramones, Living Color, Jett) and Nuno Bettencourt. This second and final CD was titled 'Shaved and Dangerous' and showed a more mature approach to songwriting with some delightful moments including a cover of Free's "Be My Friend" and the usual hard rocking tracks that Baby Animals do best. Unfortunately after some contractual disputes and Suze's impending marriage which saw her move to USA, the band called it a day. She has since married Nuno Bettencourt from Extreme and now lives on the East Coast of USA. Suze DeMarchi released a solo CD in 1998 called, 'Telelove' and had a minor hit with a song called "Satellite". It was OK but not as good as her work with the Baby Animals.
I encourage you to check out their CDs as I am sure they won't disappoint. If you follow the links to CDNOW at the bottom of this page it will allow you to hear samples before you buy.
