Here is a singer that has to be one of the best kept secrets in rock and roll. She has recorded a handful of CDs but my two favorites are 'Racine' (1992) and 'Rats' (1994).Her music some times has these weird gospel arrangements under guitar work that ranges from Texas blues to heavy metal power chords. Sass Jordan's voice is gritty - like she chews stained glass and washes it down with a jar or two or three of whiskey. Her tormented performances on the power ballads "You Don't Have To Remind Me" and "Pissin' Down" are the best examples of the unexpected range Sass possesses. I think the reason I love these two records so much is cuz it's perfect music to listen to when you're on a road trip with no particular place to go. Sass Jordan is a powerhouse vocalist that needs to be tearing up the airwaves. Go buy her stuff, dammit. |
