'White Pony' (2000)
|

The last time I listened to a band like this - and liked it - was when the Ministry record 'The Land of Rape and Honey' (1988) came out. The Deftones aren't as great but the music still has a kind of industrial, evil sound. Basically, you put Ministry and Tool together and you get The Deftones. I hate making comparisons, but I had to this time.

I happened upon this band while evasdropping on one of those annoying, testostrone-laden, noise radio stations when it was playing the Deftones' track "Passenger". I loved the intensity immediately. Okay, maybe there's a 19 year old boy in me trying to get out so he could drink beer and beat up gay people...then again, maybe not. 'White Pony' is a real bone-chilling experience. Manipulated vocals -exactly the kind that are displayed by this band - always make you feel like you gotta look over your shoulder. The guitars are eerie. It's a scary record. It's like Roger Waters' thought-pattern amplified man!!! INTENSE.
